France and its inhabitants have always been proud of the country’s many culinary traditions, and many producers strive to have their specific know-how recognized and to ensure its protection. Thus, more than 1,170 products benefit from a SIQO logo across the country.
In 2019, Appellation d’Origine (AOC, AOP / AOP) products were both the most numerous and the most successful, generating more than 23 billion euros. Among the various SIQO-labeled consumer or beverage products, wine was the most lucrative category, with sales of more than 19.5 billion euros in 2019. On the other hand, Appellation d ‘cheeses Protected Origin (PDO / PDO), sold in volume, this is certainly what consolidated the place of SIQO dairy products on the third step of the podium.
Another potential element behind the success of SIQO products is the current consumer focus on sustainable consumption. Indeed, several of the conditions necessary to obtain a SIQO logo echo the criteria of sustainable consumption. Local know-how, respect for the environment and animal welfare are, among others, characteristics strictly regulated by the INAO and increasingly sought after by consumers.
