Hala, a 37-year-old Sudanese refugee living in Egypt, was raising four children when she lost her husband in the first wave of COVID-19.
Hala needed help supporting her family and connected with a ministry supported in part by your donations to ELCA World Hunger called St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS). As government agencies closed and support for refugees dwindled in Cairo during the pandemic, StARS remained open and provided emergency relief to Hala and her family.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said this year that the pandemic “has dealt one of the most devastating blows to global food security and nutrition in recent times.”
But you can tell the difference. And right now, your freebies can go twice as far.
By December 31, every donation made to ELCA World Hunger will be matched dollar for dollar until we reach $ 75,000! Will you donate today?
ELCA World Hunger’s ministry stands ready to respond to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, creatively and courageously participating in the renewal work that God is doing, even in the most difficult of times. In 60 countries, including the United States, ELCA World Hunger works to end hunger and poverty. From pantries to water wells, from healthcare to advocacy, gifts to ELCA World Hunger are at work thanks to companions and partners near and far.
It is part of the call of Jesus Christ to our church. But to answer, we need you.
Looking forward to a new year full of hope,
Reverend Daniel Rift
Director, ELCA World Hunger and Lutheran Disaster Response Funding
