JAMMU, 05 NOVEMBER: Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha today chaired a high-level meeting of the J&K Kisan Development Advisory Board and UT Department of Agriculture officials to discuss the roadmap road on the holistic development of agriculture and related sectors at J&K, here at the Convention Center.
The meeting had meaningful and in-depth discussions in which participants shared their assessment of the agricultural sector, reviewed the recommendations of the supreme committee and the efforts of the UT administration for a great transformation of agriculture.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor said the Apex Committee on Holistic Agriculture has provided a roadmap for transforming subsistence agriculture into a sustainable commercial agri-economy.
We are taking an integrated approach to tackling the extreme vulnerability of agriculture to ensure increased productivity and enhanced resilience, he added.

The integrated approach will enable and strengthen market access for small and marginal farmers. With inclusiveness, we aim to improve the flow of credit from banks to the agricultural sector and especially to small and marginal farmers, he added.
The Lieutenant Governor commended the efforts of Dr. Mangala Rai, who led the senior committee at UT level and prepared a vision document on the holistic development of agriculture and related sectors and the farming community.
Dr. Mangala Rai’s detailed report addressed all aspects, issues and concerns related to farmers and agriculture, he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the Apex Committee report itself is a groundbreaking political document and is historic not only for J&K but also for the country. The recommendations would bring about a great transformation of agriculture in UT, he added.
The Lt Governor also insisted on the promotion of an integrated and diversified agriculture. He also led NABARD and the banking industry to aggressively increase lending in the agricultural and related sectors.
Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Agricultural Production, briefed the meeting on key aspects of the Apex Committee’s recommendations objectives, strategies and outcomes.
Prof. JP Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir also shared their views on the vision document prepared for the holistic development of agriculture and allied sector at J&K.
Dr. Anjum Andrabi gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the main characteristics and essence of the projects approved by the Apex Committee and their likely impact.
Administrative secretaries, board members of J&K’s Kisans Development Advisory Council, members of the agricultural community, as well as officials from agriculture and related departments were present on the occasion.
